Foodies on the Airwaves

I had the privilege of being asked to appear on a new radio show dedicated to foodies on East London Radio not too long ago. You may recall from my previous posts that I was interviewed on the same station earlier this year but for their women's programme The Talk,  regarding my book at the time so it was nice to be remembered for my food blogging and come back to discuss one of my favourite things ever.

It was even nicer knowing that I somewhat lost the opportunity to be on another radio food show in Birmingham some months ago, which was disappointing but then this opportunity came knocking. "When one door closes...." This is a prime example of that expression. I was also glad to help as one of their contributors considering that it's a brand new show that they were testing. I hope that The Food Show continues to grow and just gets bigger and better. It's funny because 10 years ago food was not considered a strong enough market to have a niche in radio or magazine publishing for that matter to the extent that it is now anyway. It is still an upcoming genre in radio but "Oh my," what a difference time and new media makes.

More info can be found on my food blog or you can skip right to the audio to listen to the show's debut via the following Mixcloud link (I appear 20mins into it).

By the way all that foodgasmic goodness above is a genuine collage of food that I have cooked, decorated and reviewed at restaurants. Only 3 of them are from my restaurant reviews as seen on my blog. That picture of me is old but I'm wearing my real Chef uniform from when I was studying Hospitality & Catering at college. The hat is just a great prop as most trained Chefs will know.

City Link Up Again

For the second time I'll be performing at the City Link Up showcase in Camden Town. I had a great time being a part of their line-up in April as part of my book tour, alongside some great Musicians that I liked so much that I had to find them on Soundcloud and listen to them repeatedly! I do not get to say that too often.

Glad to be invited back and I look forward to performing some new poems of mine.

As Told By Me

Usually when I perform at a show I am one of the few female Poets there or simply a token. So it feels so good to be a part of a show dedicated to female Poets! The joke is, even shows over the years that claim to represent women, would have a line-up with men (sometimes 50%) in it anyway.....don't get me started on other similar examples of hypocrisy that I could really go on about lol.

I am just happy to come across an event that sticks to its title and to finally see more females representing again. As some who has promoted and organised live events, I know how exhausting it is to look for female Poets/Spoken Word Artists so I look forward to what I am going to see and hear at the As Told By Her (ATBH) event this week.

Last month they had a theme of 'Chocolate' which practically made me dribble at the thought of two of my loves (cocoa and writing). I am a Food Blogger after all, that was such a tease it wasn't funny. I wrote a mouth-watering, funny poem that all Chocoholics would appreciate, only to end up being wasted when I got double booked was not able to attend that show kmt. However, it's a poem saved for another occasion or another book (most likely) so there is still something to look forward to where that's concerned. Even more so, when I came across the theme for this month's ATBH event being 'Relationships & Situationships' I could not believe my luck as my book is all about that and some!

Everything happens for a reason and I am looking forward to digging into that girl talk, although this would be for a mixed audience and men love my poems so I've found so it makes no difference to me, sharing some of my most appropriate poems from the book that I don't get to perform much.

My Mission

It has been a while since I last blogged although that DOES NOT mean that I have not been active, please don't get it twisted. I have been more active on my Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn pages the past month than on here, my food blog also I suppose.

My book tour was meant to officially end in August but marketing a (lifelong) product never really ends and fortunately for me the demand was there so extra dates mounted up- I'm not complaining. My extended tour has taken me to Watford, different parts of London and soon Bristol. There are many literary festivals taking place this month that I hope to take advantage of but that takes extra time and money that my circumstance does not permit.

Speaking of which, that leads me to explain my mission that I have mentioned before to my audience more so via my mailing list and social networks, as some may know I am raising funds to further market my book and publish the special edition by Christmas. This is a much bigger mission than it sounds as that takes plenty of funding. Further marketing in regard to my book means; videos, online ads, print ads, staff, travel and accommodation for extra tour locations. The cost of all this is in the thousands but EVERY LITTLE HELPS! And I need help from my audience and corporate sponsors to reach this goal. Book sales are wonderful but not enough to raise what is needed for what I am trying to achieve. There are also rewards granted in return of your sponsorship.

The feedback and reviews that I have received so far from audiences as well as Radio Presenters and Promoters over the course of my tour, has been absolutely wonderful. I am so pleased that my writing has given so many people so much pleasure, and I intend to do the same with the special edition. I'm stepping up! Like I said this is a mission dammit. Not one that I can't achieve either, just one that I would be needing extra help with, a crowdfund per se. Sponsorship is imperative here. I appreciate your assistance even if that is just through the means of reviews, endorsement, buying my book, sharing and liking my social media posts or attending my promotion events, if not financial sponsorship. Taking the time to fully read this post with the consideration of helping me in some way is also greatly appreciated.

Full details about my requested sponsorship can be found via the link. I have formal proposals available for corporate sponsorship and funding of significant amounts, simply contact me to find out more.

To know more about my book you can see to the Amazon page which contains some amazing, authentic five star reviews (THANK YOU SO MUCH READERS!) and to hear some of the content you can watch the following videos taken from my book tour this past year. Please note that the special edition will include pictures (such as the hardback edition) and an audio CD.

I hope to see an increase in my sponsorship or even readership with your participation shortly. Thank you in advance. In the meantime you can sign up to my mailing list to remain updated with my projects as my newsletters also have the occasional sponsorship options click here.

Until Next Time,

#ImAllin

We All Need Oxygen (Book Tour)

We do indeed. It goes without saying that I am just using a pun on words with my title here. Speaking of which, there were a lot of puns and metaphoric jokes made at Once Upon A Mic when I performed last week, some of those jokes were actually funny and made me laugh out loud even the silly ones which is rare. I also had some of the best compliments that I ever received in regard to my performance "Thank you!" you should all know who you are. To my knowledge the event wasn't filmed which is a shame but there was photography and just so you know, I did perform poems from both this book and my forthcoming one to keep it fresh. A year of performing the same poems does get daunting and I always felt it for musicians in that regard.

As part of my (gradually mounting) extended tour dates for I'm All In, I will be a featured act at an open mic event called Oxygen in West London this week. I have yet to check out this event so I am very much looking forward to it as there will also be many other acts of other genres. Come down to watch me perform or to even buy a book, or two! If you are unable to make my performance you can always buy the book online in hardback or paperback (do remember that a special edition is on the way) by simply shopping on Lulu, Shop Infiniti, Amazon or Barnes & Noble.

One of My Best Interviews/Appearances

So I was on East London Radio (ELR) recently and it honestly was one of the best interviews I've had so far and I've had quite a few including ones outside of my publishing work (check out the video interview of me as a Film Director with Guide and Inspire). The Presenters were accommodating, friendly and asked me all the right questions, they clearly did their homework and it was refreshing, I admire that.

More Presenters/Hosts/Red Carpet Interviewers need to be that way in my opinion, I am a harsh critic of that and not just because I work in media but I am a fan of interviews in general as they make me appreciate someone (e.g. Celeb/Politician/Influential person) more but not when the are giving one word answers to stupid, irrelevant questions about what they're wearing, who they're dating and their celebrity friends business! If and when I interview someone I learn about them first so that I have knowledge if not interest, in what they are doing, have relevant questions to ask, an idea what people may want to know about them and build a rapport to make for a better conversation. It is a skill that's all I'm saying. Not everyone has it but the ladies of ELR do so rant aside, I am giving a compliment and their compliments of my work was very much appreciated also. Listen to the interview on Mixcloud, bear in mind that I appear 40mins into it.

I had a great day altogether as the weather was fantastic, the interview was great, I went everywhere I wanted and needed to go before heading to my last destination which was a booking in South London later in the evening. That next appearance was to perform at SELAR, quite an eclectic and most certainly memorable evening (nudity took place- not me) but nothing I was a stranger to (the elaborate ways in which people express their art as opposed to nudity lol). I had a nice time, met some great people and the host was absolutely lovely which is always a joy to experience when you participate in such events. Twice my poetry/performance was described as "captivating" oh my days you have no idea how that makes me feel. Glad to know I touch people in such a way with my words and stage presence for that matter.

It was just a wonderful day beginning to end that had me going to bed smiling, don't you just love those!

RANDOM UPDATE: The last performance that appears on my tour for 29th July has been rescheduled to August! I will keep you updated

Updated Tour Dates

Plenty has gone on since my last post, some good things and some bad things (personally). Thankfully, many good things came out of the bad so I'll shut up in regard to that- for now. What I will say is; one of those bad things was me not being able to attend my scheduled performance at BAC a couple weeks ago which saddened me a great deal. This was because I had a sudden emergency that threw me off everything that I had lined up over the days that followed. Sh*t happens. The situation could have been much worse, I am beyond thankful for that not being the case and extremely thankful for all the assistance and concern from others at the time. I had a revelation that day of 'everything happens for a reason.'

Moving on, things are much better now and are returning to a calmer state where I can refocus my energy back into my work, while being smarter with it as oppose to just relentlessly working harder. I am continuing on with my book tour as it comes to an end (I don't really want it to end as I'm having too much fun!), finishing off the special edition of I'm All In and doing preparations for my next book. See the July listing in the updated book tour poster below, these include more performances and a radio interview. Please note that more dates will follow regarding August.

What is also great, is the new cards that I made recently which made the recipients VERY happy. Naturally it makes me VERY HAPPY in return. Images will be seen from those cards in my soon to be released newsletters, sign-up to mailing list to receive it. To find out more about my Custom Poetry Greetings Cards click here,

Radio & Performance at BAC #BookTour

The upcoming appearances for my book tour will be with Poets & Poetry radio show 13th June 4-6pm and a performance at Rock the Mic 30th June 7pm.

The radio show will be on PowerXtra Radio and you can follow the link to listen to the live stream online. I have been anticipating being on this show as it is 100% dedicated to poetry and spoken word! A growing genre in radio with a faster growing audience, so I'm greatly looking very forward to sharing my poetry, my story and specifically the poems from I'm All In with them.

The performance will be at Battersea Arts Centre (BAC) a couple weeks later which I am very much looking forward to also as I have known BAC for a while but have never performed with them. They do great things for young performers and I am happy to participate in that. I will be one of the featured acts performing at Rock the Mic among other Artists of the variety show. Naturally as this is a part of my tour I will have copies of my book with me ready to sign and sell!

Official Tour Dates

This is the most frequent that I have ever blogged on here, even got me neglecting my food blog but there's been so much to update and inform my poetry/film audience of, needless to say it has been a busy month. Book promoting and book selling, I couldn't be happier. The interaction and positive reactions that I receive from my poems of my current collection and cover design when I attend these events and meet with audiences is mind blowing to me. Not that I didn't expect to be well received but I did not foresee such love. Merci beaucoup!

To update you further, here are the official dates of my book tour, dates that have taken place already and what is to come. If you receive my newsletters you will know that the tour listing was not issued beforehand for a reason but I kept updates via my blog, Twitter and Facebook page so I am more than pleased to issue it officially as it is overdue and I am now less dependent on others to do so. Hence, this being an independent project. Please note that the dates and cities for July onwards has yet to be confirmed as you will see on the poster.

Since the release of my book last August I decided to tour for a year and make the most of it while I work on my second (and third but a different genre) book. It has been great so far, I hope to do more festivals, get more press, more reviews (that's my readers invite) and host another promotion event soon enough.

MUCH LOVE to my Infiniti Promotions team, freelancers and other helpful individuals that have supported me with my tour! There is still so much to do in order to complete this tour to the best of its ability of which is in great need of financial sponsorship, so while I work on proposals and contacts myself it would be much appreciated if you or someone who you know to possibly be ideal for my project, could sponsor me.

If you are interested or have suggestions of sponsorship please do get in contact MissLaurenKaye@Gmail.com.

Again, thank-you for all your listening ears, reading eyes, book purchases, autograph requests (which still feels weird as an unknown person but feels good that it's wanted), your undivided attention when I perform, your lovely feedback, constructive feedback, compliments of my poetry in general, signing up to my newsletters, all your shares and likes of my social media posts (tour date announcements and videos) and overall support. Truly.

Look out for my next tour stop! #ImAllin

P.S. You can leave your reviews for I'm All In via this blog in the comment section on the 'My Books' page or on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk or Lulu.com of where you can also purchase a copy.

To My Teachers

Like I posted on my Twitter and Facebook profiles recently, it's Teacher Appreciation Week and I am more than happy to praise all good Teachers and Mentors that I have had the privilege of crossing paths with in my lifetime. I have a long education and have studied at my different schools, colleges and other education centres so my encounters with teachers are that of many. Therefore, my list may seem extensive but believe when I tell you that in comparison to some of the dreaded 'should not be teaching just to make a wage' folk that I have had the misfortune of meeting, the good ones stand out because as I have found there to be so few.

So here's to the serious, passionate, trustworthy, professional, knowledgeable and genuinely nice ones (not all on my list tick all those boxes lol but all of them have affected my life in a great way with their role). I may not remember everyone's name but you know who you are; Miss Snell, Miss Gordine, Ms. Peduzzi, Mrs. Rupchand, Ms. Sproule for all your help even after I left, Mr. Birch,  Mr. Hughes (RIP) even for the detentions. My P.E teacher for eventually getting me to like sports to the extent that I was captain (repeatedly). The lovely English teacher in year 7 who pushed me to enter my first poetry competition. Mrs. Downs for making me realise my culinary talent, Mr. Drummond for pushing my class to that 100%. My intermediate class Maths teacher who got me to actually like the subject and who'll be elated to know that I've now got a qualification in Accounting.

Miss Angela from primary school who I should've listened to more than once as a shy child, Mr. Asan, Mrs. Corridor, Mr. West, Miss Rowland, Mrs. Combs and the substitute teacher that rhymed with every sentence fascinating all of us infants and inspired me to write poetry as oppose to just reading it. Mr. Spriggs who welcomed me with open arms and was so sad to see me leave. Mark Mason for being the beloved tutor that you were and for giving me such a fantastic reference. Alan and Daryl for adding to that same joyful college experience that made me do tremendously well in my exams.

The lovely Egyptian man (RIP) who was the only supportive and nice tutor from culinary school. My Business teacher from adult college who had such confidence in the success of my entrepreneurial future. My Japanese teacher, Marivi for helping me to excel in Spanish and encouraging me to take it further. Bob Bentley, Stephanie Caplan, Hassan, Brilliant for being just that (that's his real name) with your determination to see me persevere. Adam Nimoy for giving me the film education and encouragement at NYFA that I was not getting at university back home. Alfonzo my friendly and helpful driving instructor in LA, Alam my extremely helpful (I passed) driving instructor in UK. My kickboxing instructors who pushed me to be at my physical best, making me fall in love with the martial art. Liz Agbettoh for being a great mentor during and after my work experience.

Since I have had the headache of going through many, stressful enrolment processes to apply for all my education I want to give an extra shout-out to all the supportive and great 'customer service having,' administrative team members who made those experiences less stressful. I am specifically addressing those special individuals from the enrolment and the finance departments who went above and beyond or even just did your job as you were meant to, to assist me. If only you knew.

I deteste faculty members and staff that take advantage of their position in power only to abuse students by disrupting qualifications and admissions for whatever their personal or unprofessional reasons may be, thus ruining lives. This strikes a chord with me as you may have gathered because I have been on the receiving end of this too many times to count. I love education but to a degree a hate the process. The people named above have touched my life in a personal way with either their efforts or their kindness, thus helping me to enjoy the process and I am beyond grateful for that.

Latest Cards & My Rolls Royce

You know that 'Card Designer/Greeting Card Writer' is officially another title of mine right? If not just look at the page of where you'll find out how I came to be the founder of Custom Poetry Greeting Cards.

I love my card-making, it gives me the most joy. Even more so, it makes my customers and recipients very happy. Even family members and friends of mine compete with who has the best card made by me, who received one from me or who had the deepest poem! That can get overwhelming at times but it feels priceless.

Over the past 7-8 months I have made many Birthday cards which is predictable I guess, fewer Valentine's than last year but exciting nonetheless, a Congrats card and Christmas cards. The Christmas ones in particular were a lot of fun as I got to make use of some of the ideas that I had in mind for a long time, such as edible candy cane (really), a handmade stuffed stocking and the simplicity of drawing. I loved drawing as a child, always excelled in art at school. I suppose that goes without saying.

I would like to sharpen my illustration skills to a more professional level and add that in my cards more, right now I am just about confident enough to draw basic storyboards. By the way in regard to the Pisces card, I graphically designed and edited from images I found from other Artists. I will in no way claim that they are my original sketches or try to profit from them as such. Y'know what I'm getting really good at though? Doing freehand snowflakes. The snowflake Christmas card although very simple, is one of my favourites cards and it looks so pretty under certain lighting.

Believe or not those are real handcuffs sewn into this big sized card. Yep, very daring I know but was great for what I needed them for (card-making wise) although turned out to be heavier than expected. This adult humour card was a part of my Valentine's range and the poem inside can also be found in my poetry book that I encourage you to purchase so that you can enjoy reading that poem or dedicate to someone in your own time.

Despite that my handmade designs are popular and aesthetically pleasing, not all of my cards are handmade as you may have noticed. What I have noticed with my audience and customers is that they care for the poems I write for them much more. I often get told that I "speak to them" and fully understood what they felt and were trying to say, and this is after having read the 2nd or 3rd draft to them before even getting to the design. I am not complaining one bit, I feel honoured! That feedback humbles me and elates me as a Writer. My customers being happy and impressed by my skills, passion and dedication for my art- in both its forms in this case, it just doesn't get any better than that for me. Payment goes a long way too of course ;-)

For those that would not catch onto the logo reference of the cosmetics brand Motive, I included it so that it would make sense. This was for a 30th birthday card that was very enjoyable to make, especially when selecting the pictures representing childhood to adulthood in the inside covers of the card. The reason for the brand association is simply because the recipient works with the brand, so it had a personal meaning.

Now for what I have been saving as my masterpiece, what I call "My Rolls Royce of cards" so far and is currently the centerpiece on my living room stand.........

Do you recognise it? I gather that you've clicked on by now but if you haven't it is a direct representation of my book! I went all in with the book and went further in with this card oh my days. A friend of mine pointed out to me two birthday's ago that I should make a card for myself since there wouldn't be anyone to make or buy the kind of cards that I make, for me as a gift. He was right so since then I decided to make cards for myself on special occasions. I want to feel the way my customers/recipients feel too!

Furthermore, no one got me a Congrats card or physical gift like flowers or what have you after I published my book, not even at my launch party which was a downer so I have learned that it's best that I just gift myself. To be clear, I did get a 'Congrats' gift of some sort as it was monetary and very much appreciated but I do love my cards and keepsakes that's all I am saying. So with this card, I was killing 2 birds with 1 stone by making it a Congrats + B'day card and reflection of my writing achievements the past year. I had a reason to be proud as well as a reason to celebrate.

I knew that I wanted the card to represented the book and overall theme of the book which is Alice In Wonderland, so I designed the inside to have individual playing cards (seriously) that spelt out the words 'Just Published'! The inside cover looked like the flaps of my hardback book with my photo and bio, but the butter on my cracker was the glass with dice in it just as designed on my book cover. As the glass is my favourite part of the book cover that was an original design of mine, having this as a focal point in this card (literally in not on) design meant the world to me.

I hunted down disposable champagne glasses but none matched the shape and size required, fortunately I had some left over disposable wine glasses from a fundraising event I organised some years ago (nothing goes to waste) and IT DID THE DAMN THANG. Making the miniature cards and putting the 'glass' cup in place was a mission, like I said I broke a sweat but man was it worth-it. I smile everytime I look at it or spin the mini cards round. Fabulous.

Nothing can top that one for the time being however, I'm currently working on a couple milestone birthday cards at the moment which I always find exciting to indulge in so I can't wait to finish them. One of these cards is very special to me and may very well be the "Bentley to my Rolls" or more than, we'll see.

I can't deny that there is a theme of red in the above images, not intentional however colours used for Xmas and V. day are typically going to be dominantly red, with black, white and green. I had an alternative colour scheme for one of the Xmas cards I made last year that I adored but cannot show it to you "sorry." There is more that I would also love to show off but some of my cards are private for the sake of my customers.

Tis' the coming time of Father's Day and Congratulations will soon be in order for exams, driving tests and graduation, of course Wedding season is also upon us (I write vowels too by the way as also seen in my book). My versatility also stretches to appropriate and comforting words of Condolences, comfort and encouragement for Cancer Survivors, as well as Get Well cards and sentimental notes (poems) to say Miss You, Thank You's or any personal feelings of communication that you would like to have in a custom card, I am here!
