I can promote a film or an event all day long but to promote myself has taken a whole lot of elbow grease lol. However, the positive feedback and demand from fans of my work makes it ALL WORTH-IT.

4th One Rolled Out, Join My Movement

So I published my 4th newsletter today promoting my poetry and various writing/work activities. Remaining consistent since the start of the year in regard to my increase in self-promotion, enthusiasm to share more of myself and my creative work that I would have kept private otherwise or just for the selective few and it actually feels good. Time and money well spent.

It feels like a movement for me, it is a movement for me. A mini one of course but that's just for starters as this is just the beginning of many more BIG  things to come from this Mini Mogul in the making. It's not just me speaking about myself by the way or flooding it with pictures of selfies (no offense to others that do- do your thing!). Yes, its main purpose is to promote me and what I do but I also promote any topic or event that I want to bring to your attention such as what I do with my actual blogs.

Issued Out

Nearly two weeks ago I issued my first newsletter to promote my blog, products and writing projects. It's another expense but like I said I've been on my self-promotion game and as a business woman I am fully aware of the power and necessity behind marketing. Every brick counts to make a house, in my case it's a mansion. I always think big.

The response so far has been wonderful "Thank-you" to everyone who reached out to me in reply and support of my efforts. You have no idea how encouraging it is. There's plenty more to come from me, plenty more for me to share with you, entertain you with and engage you with. It's all good.

As stated in my newsletter prices for my extraordinary custom poetry greeting cards will increase from 1st Feb and they have since done so. They are not just cards, they are personalised poems accompanied by fantastic custom (usually handmade) designs. Plenty time, effort and passion goes into making these cards so they are more than worth the purchase believe me. I am currently working on my Valentine's orders and collection for general sale (non-custom but exclusive) right now. I am also looking for an ideal Valentine's event to perform at too so if you know of anything let me know!

It's a great time, many things are happening and I am just excited.

On the Self-Promotion Tip

The pictures above are the images on my new promotion flyer that advertises my poetry and custom poetry card services. I've wanted to go beyond social media, business cards and just print flyers specifically for my poetry work for a while now. These include info about my blogs, current projects, social networks, booking & contact details with a cute picture to match. Might I add that it's designed by moi. I have been designing flyers, particularly for my events, for years now and it feels good to make one for myself.

So now, when I am performing at an event and I am asked what my Twitter, Facebook, website or latest projects are I can simply hand these out to answer all questions and have it stay in their mind.

Regardless of how small this may seem to some it's a big deal to me. For artists and performers self-promotion is the name of the game but it has always been something that I have shied away from. I am used to getting work through referrals and as I am quite a private person I was happy with that. However, audiences and fans want more than that and I am learning to step out of my comfort zone.

Being that I have a media and entrepreneurial background it is only natural for me to know and adopt the consistent, smart behaviour of marketing in order to promote my business however, when it comes to promoting myself by putting my pictures everywhere and creating an online presence solely focused on me.....I hesitate. I like undivided attention when it comes to my work or what I have to say but too much attention on me as a person makes me feel embarrassed or as Grandma would call me "stupidly modest." It was a huge push for get me to set up my personal blog- and post pictures! I was even late to get on Myspace (2007) but for the sake of my film work I got there! Now I am jumping on the bandwagon altogether and giving my audience what they want. Enjoy, there's more to come.
